WHERE TO START IF I WANT TO LEARN CHESS & HOW TO BECOME CHESS LOVER

I am sure you will find it interesting if you want to start from scratch and learn from Gotham chess. I would also recommend watching a few chess channels of Gotham chess.

Obviously one should start by learning how all of the pieces move, then play games against people at your own level.

Some experts will say that one should start playing with advanced players from the very beginning, but I would argue that this is comparable to learning how to shoot a basketball by playing games as opposed to Michael Jordan, who’s simply going to block all your goals. So it is advisable to start playing games with your own age group.  You can start by playing at chess.com or games.yahoo.com and try to play people with a score of 900 or lower. As your score improves, try to play with people having more scores or advanced players.

This will definitely boost your confidence level and your game will definitely improve.

ADVICE FOR PARENTS

If you are a parent getting involved with chess, it can be amazing to know where to start or what to do. I am going to make it a little easier for you to understand. To get involved in chess you will need to consider 3 key ideas which will certainly help you.

How should your child go about learning chess?

What chess equipment will you need?

What can you do as a parent?

INTERESTING BUT VERY IMPORTANT ASPECTS

My consideration for every new student of chess is to begin by learning the language of chess which is called “Chess Notation.”

What does Chess Notation mean?

“Chess notation uses abbreviations for each piece, using capitalized letters. King = K, Queen = Q, Bishop = B, Knight = N, Rook = R, Pawn = no notation

I always tell people that once you can read, speak, and write down chess moves, you surely gain the ability to read millions of chess books, and watch millions of chess videos, and after that, you can conserve every game you ever play.

To learn notation, you’ll need a resin chess board with numbers and letters on the sides of the board, you can easily buy from Staunton castle a full chess set and a notation book which you can avail of online. If you want to buy a board, set, and bag all at once I would suggest buying them all together to save a little money. If you want to make chess a little more fun, you can buy colored chess pieces and get a different Style board. Colored pieces and unique style boards do not meet tournament standards; however, they can be very fun at home or in a chess club. I suggest this only for novices.

FEW LOGICAL RULES TO BE UNDERSTOOD

When you play, watch what the other players do, and after a while, you’ll start to recognize patterns. What pieces do they move at the head start of the game? What kinds of protective and defensive moves did they make when you were alarming to capture one of their pieces? What kinds of invading moves did they do to take your pieces? Try to make notes of as many of these as possible, learn and retain from them, and apply good strategies and logical reasoning to your future games.

MAKE CHESS MORE INTERESTING

Don't learn chess in a way that's boring. Sure, you could pick up Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual, a behemoth of a book on technical endings, and start learning theories. You might learn a lot from that, and of course, it will be a lot more fun.

As a novice, you will improve quickly from any exposure to chess. The best way to learn is simply to play and take many more chances. Feel free to play through grandmaster games or watch educational videos. Remember, it's just a game, and it should be fun. Take chess as an interesting and fun-loving game.

READING IS MORE FUN

Once you are comfortable with the basics of the game’s rules, then start reading up on basic chess strategy. Look up “chess openings” online and learned about the first 2 or 3 that come up, learn about “forks” and “double attacks,” and research basic endgame strategies. You can find all of these tricks by exploring Google or by going through chess.com which will cover all these things. You might have to pay for one of their premium subscriptions, but honestly, their tutorials are excellent.

RECOGNISE THE PATTERNS

Keep playing a lot of games. Apply more and more strategies to your chess games as you learn them and continue to pay attention to what others are doing and learn from them, too. You should start to see your score will improve by at least a couple hundred points. At this stage you’ll be ready to start thinking 2–3 moves ahead, anticipating what moves your rival will make, and already knowing what your counter will be. At first, thinking is painful and time-consuming, and eventually, your brain becomes accustomed and when you master it you can recognize patterns without even trying.

From this point forward: wash, rinse, and repeat. Keep researching and keep learning, and start to play with players who are 100–200 points ahead of you. Always challenge yourself. Once you’ve reached a score of about 1500 you should be in the top 1% of players on chess.com. This may take a couple of years, but the satisfaction you’ll earn will be well worth it.
