Staunton Castle

I really like Staunton Castle's Leningrad design. The size of the pieces is great, the styling is fantastic, and this ebonized set looks really sharp, with the high contrast between the two players' pieces. The particular set that I received has a minor problem: one of the pawns was cut slightly, but noticeably, smaller than the others. I suspect this is a one-off, uncommon issue, as I have several chess sets from Staunton Castle and all of the other pieces have been practically perfect. I'm overall pleased with this set.

These chess pieces look really nice in shesham and boxwood. The design is very nice, combining classis Staunton styling with knights that look more like the ones found in a Zagreb set. I'm very pleased with these.

I don't know if I like this set better, or the burnt rosewood version. I ordered both. The rosewood is beautiful, but there is something special about the burnt chess pieces in this set. While not quite as black as ebony or ebonized pieces, they have a nice contrast between the two player's pieces, and the craftsmanship is impressive

Very nicely carved set. Finishing was also very good. Really enjoying the very subtle striping in some of the ebony pieces. Excellent value.

Meticulous and beautifil !!

I love these pieces. Not only the style, but the antiquing on the boxwood pieces is the perfect shade for a reproduction of a set from 1849. It looks great on my Carton Pierre mousepad board that I have. I am very, very satisfied.

Even though it’s handcrafted, it’s built solidly for real play. I use it nearly every day with friends and family. The pieces are easy to grip, the board is well-proportioned, and the aesthetic never gets old.
