Piatigorsky 1963 Staunton 4.5" Chess Set
The Piatigorsky Series – 4.4″ Historical Reproduction Chessmen
Inspired by the historic Piatigorsky Cup chessmen, this Staunton-style reproduction brings a distinctive tournament design to your collection. Crafted in Amritsar, India, it reflects our artisans’ many years of chess-making experience.
The king stands 4.4 inches tall, and each piece is generously weighted for a stable, satisfying feel. The light pieces are crafted from natural boxwood, while the dark pieces are mahogany-stained and polished to a lustrous finish. Each set includes two additional queens.
A defining feature is the distinctive knight, carved from a single piece of wood. Its character, together with the set’s striking profiles, gives the Piatigorsky design a memorable presence on the board.
The original design is associated with the celebrated Piatigorsky Cup tournaments of 1963 and 1966, which brought together some of the greatest names in chess, including Tigran Petrosian, Boris Spassky, Bobby Fischer, and Paul Keres.
While the original tournament sets featured 5-inch kings, our reproduction offers a more practical 4.4-inch king, bringing the spirit of this historic design to collectors and players alike.
Chess pieces only. Board sold separately.
